What is STEP (Sudan Tropical Exchange Project)?

STEP is a project for international medical students to get acquainted with the pathological & clinical features of the tropical diseases as well as discussing the management plans including investigations. It is held annually in the Faculty of Medicine, University of Khartoum and supervised by professors, doctors and tutors specialized in each field. What’s the programme agenda?

The scientific programme, which consists of lectures, lab work, clinical rounds and more in Tropical diseases. The Social programme, where a carefully laid out programme has been put in place where you learn about Sudan's culture while having loads of fun. The Medical mission, which an activity through which students and young doctors provide free medical care to people in a target rural area. You can find more information in the Programme page.

 

Who’s applicable to participate in STEP?

Anyone who meets the following selection Criteria:

Medical Students or graduated for not more than 6 months

Completed the following subjects at school (Anatomy, Physiology, Biochemistry, Genetics, Pathology, Microbiology and Pharmacology).

Good knowledge of English language in writing, reading and speaking.

 

When is it going to be held this year?

The STEP program will begin on the 1st of September 2018 and will end on the 30th of September 2018.

The optional Post-STEP tour will start on the 1st of October and end on the 5th of October 2018.

 

How can I apply for STEP?

When is the deadline of application?

It will be on the 30th of May 2018 for all applicants. You will find more information in the pre-application information page.

 

How many students participate in STEP?

25 Participants.

 

What will I get by paying 600 Euros?

Accommodation during your stay. (You will be staying in STEP house, which is a big house with many room in which 2-3 students will stay in a room. There’s also a kitchen and a living room. You can find more information in the pre application info page).

Lodging with two meals per day.

Social Programme Activities (Approx. 2-3 programmes per week, and a trip in the weekend. You can find more information on the Social programme page.)

Transportation for all the activities.

Is Sudan Safe?

Khartoum and it's outskirts are regarded as one of the safest places in Africa, it is also free from highly infectious diseases like AIDS.

Sudanese people are among the most friendly and peaceful people and are known for their generosity with guests.

Can I cancel my participation?

Yes you can cancel your application, if you cancel before sending the non-refundable payment there’s no problem, as soon as you pay the conformational fees it will not be refunded and after the 20th of July there’s no cancellation unless there’s special circumstances where you will have to pay the rest of the money.

 

Do we have to take an exam at the end of the programme?

Yes, there will be an exam at the end of the programme consisting of three parts:

Written exam

OSCE exam

Oral exam

 

Do we have to apply for a visa to Sudan by ourselves?

No, accepted applicants be will provided with a free visa issued upon arrival at Khartoum International Airport. You only need to upload the required documents on the application page.
